In a recent incident on Merrick Road, Seaford resident Billy Muirhead narrowly escaped a collision with a car that ran a red light, forcing him to swerve and crash his bicycle. This harrowing experience underscores the ongoing safety challenges faced by cyclists across Long Island, where inadequate infrastructure and reckless driving contribute to a rising number of accidents.

With efforts focused on education, enforcement of traffic laws, and improved infrastructure, advocates aim to mitigate risks and foster safer road-sharing practices for all. As Long Island navigates these complex issues, the call for enhanced cyclist protections remains urgent and crucial.
